MISSION

The metropolises are shaping the 21st century. Whilst individually different, they share a number of aspects in terms of urban planning and development, ecology and economy, the health system, transport, infrastructure, environmental development and communication systems.

Metropolis is the world-wide association of metropolises and capitals. Its main goal is to enhance the well-being of their citizens through an exchange of experiences, a co-operation and knowledge transfer in all fields.

The global association represents the large metropolitan areas in the international bodies and closely co-operates with numerous other organisations, networks, NGOs, scientific and research institutions as well as commercial enterprises such as the UN-Habitat - especially the United Nations Advisory Committee of Local Authorities UNACLA . There are tight relations to the WACLAC, the World Associations of Cities and Local Authorities Coordination, to the Cities Alliance and the World Bank. A close co-operation with the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), founded in May 2004 in Paris, has been agreed on.
