Cold Air Dispersion to the Surrounding Area of the Gleisdreieck

The following animation shall illustrate the functionality of inner-city cold air delivery areas, here with the example of the Gleisdreieck (borough of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg).
A long wave emission within low-exchange nocturnal radiation periods leads to an extraordinary cooling of the near ground air masses.
In consequence of this the cold air dispreads from the Gleisdreieck into the surrounding closed block-edge development.
The animation is based on a model calculation with FITNAH, it was necessary to calculate more than one hundert temporal cuts and twenty terrain elevation layers.
Starting from an overlay stream, drifting in 100m aloft with a speed of 1 m/s towards east, cold air masses with an altitude of about 20m intrudes from the edge of the Gleisdreieck into the eastern building development.
Priority objective of the video is to illustrate, that the range of penetration of the cold air depends on the structure of the surrounding block-edge development; a broken housing for example allows a stronger dispersion of the air masses than a closed one.

The blue colours illustrate a decrease of the air temperature. The most intensive blue symbolizes air masses with a temperature, which differs from the surrounding temperature at approximately -4°C.

The real time of integration of the video animation amounts to about 30 minutes.
