Map 02.12 Groundwater Levels (Edition 2002)

Explanations and Imprint of the Map
  1. The main aquifer is built predominantly out of sands and gravel of the Saale ice-age. In the pleistoceine glacial valley, the groundwater surface is free or unconfined, while on the plateaus under an aquitard of clay or marl the hydro-static pressure leads to an artesian aquifer with confined groundwater.
  2. In the Panke-valley an autonomous bigger groundwater reserve occurs under the aquitard of clay or marl of the Barnim-plateau.
  3. On the plateaus there can be temporary suspended groundwater ("stack water").
