Map 02.09.1 Type of Canalisation 2006 (Edition 2009)
02.09.1 Type of Drainage

Explanations and Imprint of the Map
  1. From areas of combined sewer systems rain- and waste water will be transported together in waste water treatment plants. But during intense rain a part of the combined water (rain and waste water) runs directly into the waters via rainwater overflows and emergency outlets.
  2. In areas of seperate sewer systems, rain and waste water is collected in seperate channels. Waste water will be managed over pumping stations into the water treatment plants, rain water runs directly into the waters. In some areas the rain water runs, through rainwater overflows, into the emergency outlets of the combined sewer system. There are areas which have only a waste water sewer system and no rain water sewer system, as well as some areas with a contrary situation.
  3. In areas without a rain water sewer system the rain water percolates in the subsoil.
  4. In part it is not possible to derive details about the type of canalisation in the existent documents. Particulary this applies in extensive industrial areas, where the type of rain water sewer system can not be anticipated from the sewer system plans of the BWB. These surfaces drain partly via private channels directly into the waters.
  5. The blocks and partial blocks of the map are assigned to one of the categories as a whole, even if in individual cases maybe several properties of the block drain different than other.
  6. Green and open spaces, which appear to have no canalisation, were not considered.

Map 02.09.2 Catchment Areas of Rain Water Canalisation 2006 (Edition 2009)
02.09.2 Catchment Areas of Rainwater Drainage
Explanations and Imprint of the Map
  1. In areas with a seperate sewer system the rainwater will be discharged into the waters. From there for every block or partial block with a rain sewer system the water was defined, into which the rain channel discharges, the so-called first absorb water. Totally there are about 180 of such waters or watersegments in Berlin.
For the map at hand these first absorb waters were combined to first absorb waters or groups to get a clear description. Portrayed are the catchment areas of the accordant waters.
  2. It is assumed that green and open spaces, which have in all probability no sewer system, are not pictured and so they are not a part of the catchment area.
  3. The blocks and partial blocks of the map are always assigned to one of the first absorb waters as a whole, even if in individual cases possibly several properties or a part of the block drains at the peripherie of two catchments into another water than others.
  4. Areas, in which the rain water will be leaded in local infiltration plants (troughs- rigolsystems etc.) and which have only an overflow in a sewer system or a water for events of intense rain, are anyway assigned to those waters (e.g. Karow-Nord).
