Explanations and Imprint of the Map
  1. In comparision to the very positive development of sulfur dioxide (Map 03.01), the emissions and pollution of nitrogen oxides have developed very unsatisfactorily. The cause is a steadily increasing traffic volume. About one-half of nitrogen concentrations are incurred by truck and bus traffic.
  2. The Map 03.03.10 shows the 98 % value as measure for the short-term load. That means 98 % of all measurments lie below the I2 reference value. I1 and I2 do not completely reflect the procedure defined in the TA-Luft, esp. for East Berlin.
  3. Nitrogen oxides are emitted mainly in the form of nitrogen monoxide. Under various climatic influences, the NO is quickly oxidised to the more hazardous NO2. No limits are set for NOx emissions in the TA-Luft 1986. A different colour scale is therefore used.
