Explanations and Imprint of the Map

The illustrated results for the Climate Model Berlin were calculated using the regional climate model FITNAH (Flow Over Irregular Terrain With Natural And Anthropogenic Heat Sources). The fundamental goal of the investigation was to make a prognosis of the changes of the climatic circumstances in Berlin’s urban structures and editing the results for planning issues in these both evaluation maps.

The FITNAH model calculates meteorological parameters on a three-dimensional reticule. The present evaluation maps were executed at a grid resolution of 200 x 200 m and displayed in an own cartography 04.10.

The Cimate Functions Map establishes the actual state of the climatic situation as relevant to planning. Emphasis is put on bio-climatic load cases, compensation effects of cold air producing areas as well as spatial correlation between compensation and affected spaces. As the compensation efforts are as classifiable as the impact, planning priorities can be established to clarify when settlement areas are affected by changes in the compensation areas.

The defined climatic functional areas should offer assertions on which areas 

  • on the one hand have a potential for relieving other (bordering or farther) spaces,
  • on the other hand beyond the spacious influence are expected to have the greatest additional impact,
  • are to be the preferred air exchange areas, that is which should play an important role for near-ground fresh air transport.

The Planning Advices Map integrates the assessment of the Climate Functions Map with regard to concerns relevant to planning. With its help protection and development procedures to improve the climate can be derived, as well as effects of dilution and remove to improve the air quality.

The main idea of these endevours correspond with the aims of

  • Protection,
  • Development and
  • Reconstruction of

climatic and immission-ecologically important surface structures. 

The associated planning advices disclose the sensitivity regarding utilisation modifications, from which climatically based requirements and procedures in terms of spatial planning can be derived.
