Explanations and Imprint of the Map
  1. The measurements for the climatic maps 04.02, 04.03, 04.05 and 04.07 were made at a height of 2 m. They were made in 1981-1983 for West Berlin, in 1991 for East Berlin and in 1992 for the surrounding countryside. Overall around 150 monitoring trips (West Berlin 60, East Berlin 60, surrounding countryside 30) were made along 34 monitoring routes (WB 24, EB 6, SC 4) with 1800 monitoring points (WB 1000, EB 500, SC 300). Data from 38 other monitoring stations was included for processing.
  2. The statistical base for Map 04.04 for low-exchange weather situations (wind speed < 4 m/s, cloud < 4/8) was calculated in the summers of the above-mentioned years along 13 monitoring routes (WB 4, EB 5, SC 4) and 45 monitoring trips (WB 4, EB 24, SC 17). Furthermore the corresponding data of 37 monitoring stations was used. The West Berlin readings from 1981-83 were adjusted to the 1991/92 level with aid of the readings from 9 monitoring stations in 1991 and a marked-out West-East route.
  3. Relative humidity describes the degree of saturation of the air with water vapor. The equivalent temperature is considered a measure of human perception of humidity. It consists of the air temperature and the latent heat available through condensation of water vapor in the air. It is calculated from the air temperature and vapor pressure.
  4. The spatial differentiation of the represented parameters applies to the given weather situations only.
