Explanations and Imprint of the Map
  1. Each symbol gives the location of a heavy metal measuring program site. Several samples of various plants and plant parts cultivated at each location were tested from 1979-1988.
  2. Lead and cadmium levels of all food or feed crop samples were individually evaluated according to the index and limit values valid for the respective medium. Each location is marked with the highest evaluation result.
  3. Evaluation of food crops followed the foodstuff index values of the Central Registry and Evaluation Office for Environmental Chemicals of the Federal Health Agency - ZEBS Values (Federal Health 5, 1990, Pgs. 224-226). Feed crops were evaluated according to the limit values of the Feed Crop Regulations (BGBl. 1, 1981, Pgs. 352-367 or BGBl. 1, 1988, Pg. 881).
  4. If index or limit values are exceeded, recommendations for reduction of possible risks can be obtained.
