One feature which distinguishes the city of Berlin from other cities is the diversity of its landscape. The objective of landscape planning is to maintain this diversity in the overall urban development process and to make a contribution to environmentally viable urban design.
The Landscape Programme including Nature Conservation is therefore responsible not only for implementing the Land Use Plan but also for the following tasks:
- Increasing the amount and improving the quality of open space in the inner city,
- ensuring that a wide range of natural forms is available,
- increasing the quality of life in the various districts and
- preserving the typical overall appearance of the landscape.
