Project description

In the urban design competition of 1993 a much closer spatial setting had been proposed for Alexanderplatz. For the new boundaries of the square the building project of the Hines Group, an American real estate enterprise, is of particular significance.
The total development of c. 5,300 sq.m. has been split into two sub-projects: a shopping mall like business house (plinth area) with a site area of 3,900 sq.m. being realized at the moment and a tower of 1,400 sq.m. The mixed usage of retail and office space will help shaping and revitalising this central part of the city. And given its protruding location it will have a special impact on the spatial appearance of Alexanderplatz.

The design of the building project for the plinth area announced as "die mitte - Shopping am Alexanderplatz" matches with its prominent position at Alexanderplatz.
